What is it?
An alternative cafe serving restaurant quality food overlooking Watchet Marina with a number of vegetarian and vegan options.
Why go?
Whether it be for a quick coffee and cake or a sit down lunch with wine the East Quay kitchen offers a relaxed and alternative dinning experience. Head Chef Richard Pettitt has created an exciting menu of modern British cuisine with significant Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences, there is also a large range of both vegan and vegetarian options on offer; something which has historically not always been the case in the South West. The small size of the cafe creates an intimate atmosphere which coupled with an exiting menu offers a dining experience which until this point had been lacking in West Somerset. Currently the kitchen is open from Tuesday to Sunday offering both a breakfast and lunch menu with a daily specials board, however they are set to introduce an evening menu in the near future.
Did you know?
The East Quay Kitchen is part of the larger ‘Onion Collective’ which is a social enterprise working to tackle social, cultural and environmental justice in Watchet, therefore it is also worth taking time to explore the adjacent exhibition galleries and artist studios which make up the larger collective.
Must try
The ‘Beetroot falafel sabih’, as pictured below, is an Israeli/Iraqi street food sandwich which is not to be missed.
Top tip
The East Quay Kitchen is located only a 2 minute walk away from Watchet train station on the West Somerset Steam Railway so offers the perfect lunch stop whilst enjoying the railway.
