Kilve Beach…..a fossil hunters paradise!

Kilve Beach is a fascinating rocky stretch of the rugged Somerset coastline.  What’s more, it’s only a 15 minute drive from our Railway properties.    The beach is an area of special scientific interest.  There are 360-degree views of the amazing South-West Coastal Path and the Quantock Hills, it really is a hidden gem. Grand limestone cliffs back the slate and shingle beach, with interesting rock formations sweeping the shoreline. There are impressive fossils dotted around, and plenty of rock pools to explore if you are looking for something to entertain the kids. Please note it’s forbidden to remove the fossils, so don’t try to take any home.

A large grassy area behind the beach makes a great spot for a picnic.   Or head to the nearby Chantry Tea Gardens, which do a fantastic cream tea with the most wonderful freshly-baked scones.

Dogs are welcome on the beach all year round, but the large stones can be problematic for smaller dogs.   But there is a large grassy stretch above the beach allows for the little ones of those wanting a blast after a ball.  The rock pools certainly make for great sniffing and exploring for your four-legged friends.

Fun Fact

Kilve Beach is where the video for Bryan Adams ‘Everything I do, I do it for you’ (Robin Hood – Prince of Thieves theme song) was filmed!
