Magical Early Days of Summer

The early days of Summer in this county are probably the best times to see the county at its best. In June you have the longest days, quieter tourist attractions and statistically the most sunshine!  You’ll also be here before the Summer holiday crowds arrive, not a bad thing at all!  This is a great month for outdoor festivals of all kinds (music, food and even Cider festivals), county shows, outdoor markets…. and cricket!

Festivals of every kind

Arguably, the most popular festival in the world is Glastonbury Festival!  This legendary festival started in 1970’s with tickets prices at £1, quite a contrast to today! Since its growth in the 90’s, the festival attracts approx. 200,000 people each year.   If you weren’t lucky enough to book your tickets, you can still visit this quirky and spiritual town and climb up to the famous Tor.    As well as Glastonbury, there are plenty of outdoor music events happening in June.  The legend Lionel Richie will be performing live at the Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton on Sunday 11th June.  If food and drink is more your type of festival, then head over to Minehead Railway Station (why not travel there on the West Somerset Steam Railway?) and visit the West Somerset Cider Festival on Saturday 3rd June.    While on the subject of railways, WSR are holding their annual Summer Diesel Festival from 8th-10th June.

Anything else just isn’t cricket

The county town of Taunton is home to one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the country….well, we think so!.   June is the season for the Vitality Blast 20-over fixtures. This is a fast, exciting format of cricket,  even for those who don’t have an interest in the sport, it’s worth spending an evening experiencing the lively atmosphere for a few hours at Somerset County Cricket Club.   Please buy your tickets in advance though, it’s a very popular event in Somerset.

We still have availability and some great offers for stays in June, check them out here
